Freedom and mobility...

Hey, gang. Peter from Fringe Sport here again and I'm doing another little vlog for our Wednesday chat. I'm here at CrossFit Eixample in Barcelona, again. If you're following our emails closely, we talked with Pablo, who is the owner of CrossFit Eixample, last week.

Anyways, I'm super sweaty because I just did this WOD, a little bit of a warm-up up here, going to a three-rep max of back squat, and then do four by three at 60% of that three-rep max.

Me, because I love to squat and I'm stupid, I did three by four and then my last set I did a burnout set where I did 22, which is getting a little spicy towards the end.

Then we move on to the WOD down here, which is:

  • 3x AMRAP 4:00, followed by 3:00 rest
  • 15 American kettle bell swings (24kg)
  • 12 toes-to-bar
  • 9 box jumps

I did it with a 24 kilo bell, and honestly, this is the first time in my entire CrossFit career that I've ever strung together toes-to-bar. It's not a movement that I commonly do, since I train at Atomic Athlete. We do T2B there, but we don’t and train to string them, so I'm actually pretty pumped about it.

Anyways, there's the CrossFit Eixample seal in the background. I just want to talk a little about mobility and what our sale is for the week. The sale for the week is on resistance bands and also battle ropes.

I will say that at this point I am not using, personally, resistance bands a whole lot, but we have a ton of them in the Fringe Sport gym in Austin, Texas.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before. Fringe runs, in addition to a retail operation in Austin, Texas, we run a fully outfitted box. Now, we're not CrossFit affiliated but we do have everything that you might see if you walked into a normal box.

Here's the kicker: it's all free.

Monday through Sunday, 365 days ... well, maybe not 365. We do take a few holidays here and there. Fourth of July being one of them, which by the way, today's the Fourth of July. Here I am in Spain. Yay, go America!

If you're in the Austin area, either living here or passing through visiting, please, please, please stop by Fringe. The main downside that I always mention to visitors is that Austin gets pretty hot and we, being a free gym, we're a little bit minimally outfitted as far as amenities that are not barbells.

If you want barbells, oh boy, we got your barbells.

But, if you want, let's say a shower, little problem there.

But, we love, love, love to see both Austin residents and guests who are passing through Austin by Fringe for a workout ... of course, you're always welcome to buy stuff ;).

Come to our retail operation, check out what we're doing, but also come and grab a workout. You never know who you'll meet. I try to be there as much as I can, since I own the place. Obviously, I'm in Spain now for a little while, but come on by the Fringe gym.

Then, as far as the sale of the week goes, those resistance bands and battle ropes ... really, really great stuff. One that I would personally call out that's something that I have been using a little bit more lately is our Fringe peanut. It's basically two lacrosse balls stuck together and one of the benefits that it has is that you can get it to where your spine is in the middle, the crease of that peanut, and then you can kind of roll up and down your spine with the other sides of the lacrosse balls. It's really a big, big, big benefit to do that. Of course, we've got normal lacrosse balls, as well.

This has been Peter. Today I'm in the Eixample neighborhood, because CrossFit Eixample, of Barcelona and it is the Fourth of July. I'm actually about to head to the beach to hang out with a bunch of other displaced Americans so we can be obnoxious and celebrate the birth of our nation and really appreciate that. Then, there's probably going to be some beer, maybe not American beer, but some Spanish beer, and then we're going to get the most American meal we can possibly find afterwards, which in our case is going to be some burgers. Little bit different burgers, but supposedly there's some American style burgers, so we'll see.

Anyways, this has been Peter from Fringe Sport. If you like what I'm putting out here, please tell a friend or hit me a reply. Tell me, "Hey, I wish I could be in Spain," "Hey, I'm in Spain. Let's go hang out." Even if you don't like it, "Hey, Pete. Shut up. Stop sending this stuff." Reply. I'm going to reply back to you.

This has been Pete from Fringe Sport at CrossFit Eixample in Barcelona. I'll be back in the States pretty soon and believe it or not I'm really looking forward to being back home, back in my office. I've still been working here while I've been on the beach doing other stuff, but it's not the same as being back home. Peter from Fringe Sport signing out.

Lift something heavy today!
