7 Things That Happen When You Workout With Your Partner
Valentine's Day is right around the corner and we know there are a ton of things you like doing with your significant other (S.O.)... like working out. Here are a few reasons why working out with your beau is good for both of you.
1.) Motivate Each Other
If one of you is in a rut or not feeling motivated, you can hold each other accountable and push one another to reach your fitness goals. I know there have been plenty of times that either me or my other half has had a long day at work and the only thing I wanted to do was veg out, but once either one of us pushed the other, starting a work out was the best decision we made that day.
2.) Compete With Each Other
So this is very similar to the first reason, but if we're doing a certain movement that I may not be particularly good at and he's better, that makes me want to try harder to keep up. Plus, when you see your S.O. looking and feeling better, you may push yourself a little harder to look good to keep up with them.
3.) You'll Always Have a Spotter
Don't get me wrong sometimes you just need a solo workout sesh, but when you're trying to hit a new PR and needing some help with those last couple of reps, having a spotter like your S.O. there to yell at you and make sure you don't get crushed is definitely nice.
4.) Quality Time
One of the big things that couples complain about all the time is they don't get enough time together. You can schedule your date night, but how about scheduling regular workout sessions with your S.O.. You both can become happier and healthier...together.
5.) Get Full Use Out of Your Equipment
When thinking about building your garage gym, something that we see most couples consider during the purchase process is "Will we both be able to use this [piece of equipment]?" This keeps you from buying more equipment than you need or are budgeted for.
6.) Try New Things Together
Not everyone likes doing the same workout. I will say, I was more into cardio/running and he was more into weightlifting. I was hesitant to lift heavy weights, but the more I did it the more I liked it. Trying out each other's favorite movements and trying new things together, can really spice things up.
7.) Take Turns Watching the Kids (or Pups)
If you're not able to workout because you have to watch the kids (or mischievous pups in my case), you can take turns working out while the other watches them. You can alternate days or an hour each. It will help you each get your "me" time in too.
